System Shock 1 is very different compared to modern games. It based on the Ultima underworld engine, has no mouse look (now it can be modded) and the graphics look strange by today's standard. It still has a couple of nice tricks (cyberspace, hacking puzzles). It has the best sorry IMHO, except for prey.

i love the entire subgenre of immersive sims, but system shock 2 felt really clunky and at times bordering on unfair. the entire weapon degradation scheme in ss2 is awful; prey was probably right to get rid of it, but in mooncrash it feels a lot fairer. not to mention how confusing the map design felt. your objects are much clearer in prey.

The world design is so much more cohesive and recognizable in Prey- if you show me a random corridor in System Shock I'd have no clue where I am, but in Prey, I'd know it like the back of my hand. Not to mention the creativity in combat provided by the much more interactive environment and more creative options in traversal provided to the player.
