The only official appearances of Bagan are in the SNES video game, Super Godzilla and in Godzilla Movie Studio Tour. Bagan's original concept was a shape-shifting creature that switched between a dragon form, a fish form, and an ape form, and finally into a totem.

It started out as an ape-like creature but after being wounded it became a dragon-like creature. It later dove into the water and became a sea monster-like creature with a dragon-like creature attached to the top of its body.

Bagan is finally making an appearance in Japanese theaters later this month in a Mothra vs. Bagan prologue feature as part of a special Godziban event!. Bagan's theatrical debut is a significant one since the Monster was originally going to debut back in the 1990s opposite Mothra in a sequel to Godzilla vs. Biollante, but Toho unfortunately canceled the project after Godzilla vs. Biollante.
