It also has weather sealing, and, continuing in the delightful trend from the 14-24mm ART, it is fully compatible with Canon's Lens Aberration Correction (only the second third party lens that this is true of). I thought this is a nice door stop only and perhaps I will throw out or I will disassemble it to study how a zoom lens is built. I did make a series with 35 and 70mm.

There is a second reason for removing the hood for macro shooting, as it would obscure the distance and magnification markings that are engraved on an inner barrel that extends forwards some.

Feels solid. Very large maximum aperature for the price. Focusing scale printed on the barrel. Autofocus works well with my Tamron 2x teleconverter (the only lens I have that does). Weakness: Plastic mount. Some distortion at 28mm. Depth of field preview on my Elan 7 will not work with this lens (it does on my EOS-1n).
