What is Zentangle®? This technique started in the early 2000s in Massachusetts. The founders are Rick Roberts, who had a long background in meditation, and Maria Thomas, a calligrapher and artist. Together they created a non-representational art form focused on easy, repetitive shapes, lines, and patterns that fill specified areas on square paper.

With your pencil held at about a 45-degree angle or perhaps a little less, begin to shade the edges and sides of the tangles that are farthest from the light. Keep it as even as you can.
